Bidding at the Auction Sites

It can be incredibly irritating to bid on the online auction sites. There is so much competition that a win becomes relatively rare. This can be incredibly frustrating when bidding on that ‘must-have’ item. The Penny Auction is no exception to the rule of frustration. These are a relatively new breed of site that originated in the USA, today, though, they are popular across the world, including in the UK.

These auction sites can be a little confusing at first, particularly for those people who are used to the traditional formats at eBay and Amazon. For this reason, we have presented a guide to bidding at the penny auctions.

Playing the Game

·         Bid Packages: These are essential to the game, without them, you cannot bit. Here, you purchase a set number of bids for a set price, e.g. 20 bids for £5.

·         The Counter: The auctions are won when the countdown timer reaches zero. This is true of traditional sites too. However, the twist comes as this: each bid placed increases the timer by 20 seconds. Therefore, in order to win, you have to be the last person to bid; once you place a bid you have to hope that nobody else does within the 20 second time frame or you do not win. The 20 second rule is a guide, some auctions have a 10 second timer, and others a 30 second timer and some are even longer or shorter. However, 20 seconds is the norm.

·         The Items: These sites sell a wide range of premium items. There are many electronic gadgets, such as MP3 players, digital cameras, Plasma TVs, 3D TVs, and Blu-ray players. There are also other household gadgets, such as hoovers and washing machines. Then there are perfumes, clothes, and gift vouchers.
