There is nothing that has not been auctioned over thousands of years but with the internet it is now possible for any individual to sell online to the highest bidder and it has become a popular and occasionally profitable pastime for many.
One type of auction that I would hate to win is the supper with some celebrity. This form of bidding usually happens at charity nights where a celebrity is present and people are invited to bid to spend another dinner date at a later time.
Often there is a sports star involved and sadly it is a universal fact that nine out of ten sportsmen at the top of their chosen career are immensely boring. What on earth would two people who have nothing in common be able to talk about especially if one is a monosyllabic sports star with an ability to kick a football? Push a snooker cue or hit balls with a tennis racket or cricket bat?
It’s hardly surprising they are underdeveloped in social interaction when you consider they have spent ten hours a day in their chosen sport since the age of nappies
Having had the dubious pleasure of finding myself with a well-known international cricketer and at another venue an equally well known golf professional let me tell you that if you are not able to talk with them about their sportand how good they are at it then there is no conversation at all.
Take a tip and remember that however flash you want to appear at a charity ball and the bidding starts for an evening with Mister so and so the well-known sportsman, keep your hands in your pockets and avoid eye contact with the auctioneer.
Play it safe and just stick to internet auctions, there are all sorts of bargains to be had especially with the so called penny ones which are intriguing but need to be fully understood to increase your chances of some spectacular bargains on everything new from the latest Wi-Fi products all the way up to a spanking brand new car.
